After a year of working in Malta, my feet began to itch, an adventure was due. This time, it would be me and my girlfriend, Zakieh.
Wages are generally low in Malta, which meant saving money for the trip was a little difficult. It also meant that Norway (one of the most expensive countries in the world), was probably an odd choice for the adventure.
The decision followed the same lines as usual.. I stare at Google Maps for a while and then pick a country or possible route that catches my eye, with the hope of figuring it all out later.
Our flight was due to land in Oslo, around 2pm. Our train which would be taking us north, towards the starting point of the kayaking, was due to depart from the airport at 2:59pm. I knew that was cutting it close, but the other option was paying triple the price for a later train. So I'd taken the risk and hoped our flight wouldn't be delayed.
It was, by 45 minutes. It made up a bit of the time on the journey and when it landed, we had 30 minutes to get through immigration, collect our bags and find the train platform.
Last year I finished cycling from Cornwall, UK to Laos. I cycled through Europe in the winter with one friend and then through the Middle East, Central Asia, China and into Laos with another friend. I met many nice humans, lots of nasty dogs, Tibetan Monks, got drunk with some Kazakh Police and deported from a country. To summarise - we had fun. Below are the 10 most popular posts from the trip, in chronological order...
